With the Bincmoney project (Binkgeld in Dutch), we’re starting with a mini-basic income: a small group of people will receive a modest basic income of 2 euro per day for half a year. The first round is run in cooperation with the local currency “Utrechtse Euro” in the city of Utrecht in The Netherlands.
So this first round is focused on Utrecht. Anyone in Utrecht and the surrounding area can apply. Three participants will be randomly selected from all applications. They will receive 1 Utrecht Euro every day for six months.
About the Utrecht Euro
The Utrecht Euro is a digital, local currency that businesses and individuals in Utrecht can use to pay each other. This keeps the money within the region and stimulates the local economy. As a participant in the Utrecht Euro, you have your own account, similar to your bank account. There’s also an app you can use to pay at participating stores. Currently, 180 shops and businesses, and 350 individuals participate in the Utrecht Euro network.
The idea of combating poverty and inequality aligns well with the ideals of the Utrecht Euro. Each of the participating businesses has its own social value, and their local character contributes to strengthening the local economy.
Bincmoney has its own website where you can read all the details (in Dutch).
