The Bèkske coffee company sources its coffee beans from 87 women in southern and western Rwanda, who grow coffee on individual and communal plots. By growing and selling coffee cherries, these women can provide for their livelihoods and build a future—not only for themselves, but for their entire families.
The beans are Rainforest Alliance certified. The Rainforest Alliance works toward a better future for people and nature by promoting responsible business practices that address social and environmental issues, including deforestation, poverty, human rights, and climate change.
In the first round of this project, we are supporting five of the women with an additional basic income, in cooperation with Bèkske and their local partner Solace Ministries. We invite you to support this project—and of course, buy their coffee.
The participants
Below is a short introduction to the participating women (and one man, as an exception). They come from different communities, but all can read and write well. In 2025, they all received training in modern coffee farming from Solace Ministries. After the training, they were provided with farming materials to help them care for their coffee plots.
The training has led to improved pest and crop disease management on their farms. As a result, their coffee productivity is expected to steadily increase in the coming months and years as they apply modern farming techniques to their land.
They can each use the additional income as they see fit. Some expected expenditures include improved coffee trees, access to fertilizer and further agricultural training.
