In this project we set up a Basic Income Group for 5 women in Tanzania in cooperation with the Friends of Usambara Society.
The Friends of Usambara Society is a grassroots nonprofit organization based in Lushoto, Tanzania. It is dedicated to utilizing sustainable tourism to preserve the cultural heritage and conserve the nature of the Usambara Mountains region. The organization is actively engaging in community-based environmental awareness campaigns, large-scale tree planting, agroforestry, forest protection and regeneration, combating desertification, and promoting sustainable forestry practices.

Goals
The goals for this project are threefold:
- To improve the living conditions of the participants
- To get it technically up and running with GoodDollars
- To be able to start fundraising for the next rounds with the results

GoodDollar distribution
Friends of Usambara has selected a group of 5 women in Tanzania for whom such a basic income can make a difference in their life. The women are all involved in the tree planting projects of Friends of Usambara. The women are free to decide how they want to spend the extra income. The participants receive 10.600 GoodDollars (G$) per day each. That is about one U.S. dollar per day. We distribute the same amount of G$ to the project coordinator from Friends of Usambara, so she can monitor whether the technology is working properly. Friends of Usambara will assist the participants during the project and monitor the results.
