Nice Here hosts a gathering once a month, on a Thursday evening, in the heart of Utrecht at the Huis van Actief Burgerschap (Bibliotheek Neude). It’s an informal and welcoming space where people come together to exchange bold ideas and explore new ways to make our cities… well, nice! 🌍
The evenings are organised by Qendresa Rexhepi and Mara Neldner. Whether you’re a city lover, a placemaker, or someone shaping the future of how we live and connect, this is a place where you’ll feel at home. Nice Here brings together people who are transforming cities in creative, critical, and playful ways.
This Thursday, May 21, the topic is Universal Basic Income (UBI), presented by our chair, Han Hegeman. Join us if you’re in the neighbourhood.
UBI is the idea that everyone should have a basic financial floor to stand on. We’ll explore how modest, unconditional support can reduce the fear of poverty and help communities thrive. By starting small and building from the ground up, we can discover what really works to address inequality.
In this edition, we’ll follow the journey of the FairSpirit Foundation—from a local initiative in Utrecht (Binkgeld) to its expanding work in Africa. We’ll also explore digital tools like GoodDollar, the Utrechtse Euro, and Circles, and how they can be used to support people rather than just generate profit. Most importantly, this won’t just be talk—we’ll get hands-on and try out these systems ourselves.
