Why establish basic income

Eradicating poverty in all its forms is the first of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations for 2030. This leading position is not coincidental; ending poverty has a positive ripple effect on many other SDGs. By implementing a large-scale basic income system, we can make structural progress toward eradicating poverty.

A basic income is a proven tool for combating poverty and inequality. Numerous pilot projects of various kinds have demonstrated positive effects. GiveDirectly has compiled several studies showing that “cash transfers” are an effective way to support people living in poverty.

GoodDollar & Circles

Several initiatives aim to realize universal basic income (UBI) on a larger scale, such as GoodDollar and Circles. GoodDollar has its own currency, G$, which anyone can claim daily as a basic income. All that is required is a smartphone capable of running the app. Although its value is currently low, a “GoodReserve” has recently been established to help support the currency’s value. The interest generated by the GoodReserve is distributed as basic income, and all users can claim their share each day.

Basic Income Groups

FairSpirit’s approach is to begin with small-scale, bottom-up projects involving a limited group of people and a modest basic income for a set period. This allows for experimentation with implementation methods. Once the project is running smoothly, it can be expanded to include more participants, larger amounts, or longer durations. The goal is to scale up gradually and sustainably. We are running several projects with Basic Income Groups to achieve this aim.
