Bottom-up basic income

A basic income is a proven means of combating poverty and inequality. There are
many pilots in all shapes and sizes that all show positive effects. Givedirectly
has listed a number of studies that show that “cash transfers” are an effective way
to help people living in poverty
.

GoodDollar

There are several initiatives that aim to realize a universal basic income (UBI) on a larger scale such as GoodDollar and Circles. GoodDollar has its own currency G$ that everyone can claim daily as a basic income. All you need is a smartphone that can run the app. Its value is currently very low, but recently a “GoodReserve” has been set up to support the value. The interest of the “GoodReserve” is distributed as basic income. All users can claim their share on a daily basis.

GoodDollar is also working on a promising initative called GoodCollectives. Everyone can set up a GoodCollective to grant basic income to a specific group of people. FairSpirit will use a GoodCollective to set up it’s first project.

Starting bottom-up

The idea of this project is to start small-scale bottom-up with a small group of people and a modest basic income for a limited period. This can be used to try out how this can best be implemented. Once this is going well, the project can be expanded. This can be with a larger group, a higher amount and/or a longer period. The idea is to scale up slowly but surely.

Sustainable Development Goals

One more thing. Eradicating poverty in all its forms is the foremost of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set for 2030 by the United Nations. This primary position is not arbitrary; eliminating poverty has a cascading positive effect on many other SDGs. By establishing a large scale UBI system, we can make significant progress towards eradicating poverty.
